The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said the BJP-led Central Government is once again resorting to central agencies to create fear and pressure in Punjab ahead of elections, following the Enforcement Directorate (ED)’s action involving the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). AAP said the timing and nature of such action raise serious questions, particularly when the Bhagwant Mann Government is expanding welfare schemes and development work across the state.

In a statement, the AAP said, “The BJP-led Centre is trying to create fear among Punjab Government officers through central agencies because it cannot stop the Bhagwant Mann Government’s work through political means. The same politics of raids, agency action and pressure was seen before the Delhi elections. Now the same playbook is being attempted in Punjab. But Punjab will not be intimidated.”

The AAP said, “GMADA is an important institution driving Mohali’s planned development and generating resources through development activities. Creating an atmosphere of fear among its officers can directly affect the pace of development work. The Centre must explain why its agencies are targeting an authority that is working for Punjab’s development.”

The AAP pointed out, “The BJP cannot stop the Bhagwant Mann Government’s work politically, so it is now trying to create pressure through central agencies. But Punjab’s welfare schemes are supported by the people of Punjab, not by any political party sitting in Delhi. The government will continue implementing its commitments to women, families, farmers, youth and other sections of society.”

The party said, “The Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna is providing direct financial support to women across Punjab. Alongside this, the Bhagwant Mann Government has expanded healthcare, strengthened government education, provided free electricity to households and undertaken several other welfare measures. These programmes will continue. No pressure tactic can stop the government from fulfilling its commitments to the people.”

The AAP said, “Punjab’s officers are working for the people of the state. They should not be forced to work under fear because a government in Delhi wants to put pressure on an elected government in Punjab. The people of Punjab have given CM Bhagwant Singh Mann a mandate to govern, and that mandate cannot be undermined through agency pressure.”

The party said, “If the BJP believes it can challenge the Bhagwant Mann Government, it should come before the people and compete on governance. Why is it instead trying to frighten government officers and target institutions through central agencies? The people of Punjab will judge governments on their work, not on the pressure created through raids and agency action.”

The party said the pattern witnessed before the Delhi elections should serve as a reminder that such tactics cannot derail an elected government’s political and governance work. “Before the Delhi elections, the same politics of agency action and pressure was used. The BJP could not stop AAP’s political work through normal democratic means, so central agencies were repeatedly brought into the picture. Now the same approach is being attempted in Punjab. But the Bhagwant Mann Government will continue to work for Punjab without fear,” AAP affirmed.

The party said the government’s welfare and development agenda would continue at full pace. “The BJP can create pressure, target offices and summon officers, but it cannot stop the Bhagwant Mann Government from serving Punjab. Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna will continue, welfare schemes will continue to benefit families, and development work across Punjab will continue. Punjab’s progress will not be held hostage to politics of pressure,” the AAP said.
