The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar following an investigative report by one of the country’s most respected English dailies, which contained revelations about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Senior AAP leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia described Gyanesh Kumar as a “murderer of democracy” and said he had betrayed voters and the country.
The AAP Punjab Prabhari further said that Gyanesh Kumar had betrayed the legacy of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and Mahatma Gandhi, who fought and sacrificed their lives to secure people’s right to vote, which, he said, had been compromised under the BJP’s influence and pressure.
In a statement, senior AAP leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia said, “Gyanesh Kumar’s fellow Election Commissioners objected 14 times to how new voters would be added, how names would be deleted from voter lists and who would control the voter list. His colleagues objected 14 times to what he was doing, but because of his association with the BJP, Gyanesh Kumar did not listen to anyone.”
Manish Sisodia further said, “If Gyanesh Kumar is so devoted to the BJP, he should resign as Chief Election Commissioner, join the election cell of the BJP and Narendra Modi, and become its chief. Gyanesh Kumar should not become the Chief Election Commissioner of India and thereby defame India and betray the country.”
Meanwhile, senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh “From the very first day, we have been saying that SIR is a fraudulent process being conducted by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the behest of the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. Now, that has been proved true. The issue is no longer merely about opposition to the Opposition, but also about opposition from the two Election Commissioners sitting alongside Gyanesh Kumar. They are now raising the same issues that we had raised.”
He further stated that the Election Commission deleted 27 lakh voters in Bengal. “What meaning do elections have left? The Supreme Court also said that they could vote next time. Now, when questions are being asked, the Election Commission is saying that hearings were conducted in 1.26 lakh cases, of which 93% were found to be correct. This means that Gyanesh Kumar deliberately committed the crime of deleting votes. He should therefore be arrested and sent to jail,” Sanjay Singh said.
Sanjay Singh further said that whether it is Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra or Bihar, wherever these frauds have taken place, all such elections should be immediately cancelled and held again. “The Election Commission deleted 40,000 votes in Arvind Kejriwal’s New Delhi Assembly constituency in Delhi, resulting in Kejriwal losing the election by 3,000 to 3,500 votes. This means there is no election left at all. Similarly, the EC targeted different Assembly constituencies in Delhi and deleted votes. The EC has now deleted 47 lakh votes in Delhi. Is every third voter in Delhi fake?” Sanjay Singh said.
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP said, “The Election Commission issued a notice to former Deputy Prime Minister of the country Lal Krishna Advani. Kapil Sibal, who has contested elections, was also sent a notice. A former Chief of the Army was sent a notice. Arvind Kejriwal has served as Chief Minister three times, and he and his family were sent notices.”
Sanjay Singh pointed out, “The Election Commission also sent notices to incumbent Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu himself, the External Affairs Minister and the Foreign Secretary. What kind of process is this being conducted by Gyanesh Kumar and what kind of intensive revision is this. This is being done through outright bullying,”
Gyanesh Kumar is the biggest criminal responsible for looting elections, he said. “Gyanesh Kumar, in collusion with PM Modi, has looted elections across the country and should therefore be arrested and sent to jail. All elections held across the country under Gyanesh Kumar’s supervision, and wherever such looting took place, should be cancelled,” Sanjay Singh added.
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “I have met Gyanesh Kumar twice. Once, we were together in an airport lounge, and at that time, Gyanesh Kumar was serving in the Cooperative Department. From the conversation I had with him, I understood that he was completely a government sycophant. After that, the central government made its ‘yes man’ an Election Commissioner.”
“The Supreme Court was at fault for this because, at the time, it should have taken a firm stand and asked how the government could decide who would become an Election Commissioner. Such an appointment should be decided in a completely neutral manner,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said.
“The entire SIR process taking place in Delhi is being carried out with blatant irregularities. The Election Commission has deprived one-third of the people of their right to vote and eliminated them from the electoral rolls,” Saurabh Bharadwaj stated. He claimed that the Election Commission had deleted the votes of 13 crore people across the country and that the process was still ongoing.
Saurabh Bharadwaj said that no one could question the Election Commission and that even those who approached the courts were not receiving any relief. He said he believed the people of the country would now have to take to the streets. Unless the people took to the streets and all Opposition parties put aside their differences and came together, he said, they would not be able to send Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to jail.
The AAP Delhi unit chief said, “If Gyanesh Kumar is not sent to jail, he will flee the country. Therefore, everyone must come together and ensure that he is impeached. All elections conducted by Gyanesh Kumar should be cancelled, and everyone must come together in this fight.”
Meanwhile, AAP Gujarat Prabhari and former Delhi minister Gopal Rai, “Under the leadership of Gyanesh Kumar, the impartiality of the Election Commission has been completely destroyed. The crime of looting elections across the country is unforgivable. The victories obtained through deceit in Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar and Bengal should be immediately cancelled. PM Modi’s victory has come not through public support but through the looting of the system. Such officials should immediately be sent behind bars.”
AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda said on X, “Now, with all this evidence laid bare before everyone, it is clear that the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is a puppet of the BJP. If Gyanesh Kumar has even a shred of shame, he should resign immediately. And if he has no shame, then he should be removed. This is the brazen looting of democracy.”
