Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Saturday announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the project run by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) focusing on the timely intervention in case of heart attacks to save precious lives of people. Presiding over an event in DMCH, the Cabinet Minister said that this amount is nothing in front of the services rendered by the medical institute to the people and it is just small token of gratitude towards their dedication and commitment in serving the poor people. Ashu said that the doctors and health staff of DMCH have done exemplary contribution in war against Covid-19 and saved several lives. He said that the management of the health institute had left no stone unturned in offering best treatment to the people during the waves of Covid-19 and worked tirelessly with administration and government to contain the virus. He asserted that the indomitable spirit demonstrated by them was an inspiration for others to help and save the people from the infection. Thanking the cabinet minister for announcing grant for project, Dr Bishav Mohan from DMCH said that the ICMR project is being running successfully in 11 health centres of Ludhiana and added the financial support would help to strengthen the program further and would help to save more lives. He informed that in the coming days, the same project would also be launched in Jawaddi CHC and Rural Health Centre Pohir. He said that the project aims to save precious lives from heart failure by administrating clot-buster drug tenecteplase within golden period (First 90 minutes) of the onset of symptoms. He said that everyone cannot afford to buy tenecteplase drug being used to dissolve blood clots in the heart because of its high cost (around ₹25,000- ₹30,000) and under the project, the drug is given free of cost to the patients. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Councillors Mamta Ashu and Sunny Bhalla, DMCH Secretary Prem Gupta, Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr GS Wander, Dr Rajesh Mahajan, besides several others.
