MSP to Be Ensured for 23 Crops Once BJP Government Is Formed in Punjab
Chandigarh, October 1:
Punjab BJP State President Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed the increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of all six notified Rabi crops for the 2027-28 season announced by the Narendra Modi-led Central Government. He described the decision as another significant step towards ensuring a fair and remunerative price for farmers’ produce.
In a statement issued from the party office in Chandigarh, he said, “The decision of the Narendra Modi government is not merely about increasing MSP; it will also encourage crop diversification. By providing a higher increase in the MSP of crops such as lentils and sesame, the government has sent a clear message to encourage farmers to diversify their cropping patterns and promote the cultivation of these crops.”
Questioning Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Kewal Singh Dhillon asked why MSP is not being ensured for 23 crops in Punjab, when the BJP-ruled state of Haryana is providing MSP support for 23 crops under the Bhavantar scheme. The scheme also covers vegetables. In contrast, the Punjab Government had once announced MSP for moong, but the decision was never implemented effectively on the ground.
He said that once a BJP government is formed in Punjab, MSP will be ensured for 23 crops, providing farmers with greater price security and encouraging crop diversification across the state. Kewal Dhillon said the Modi government’s decision has also given a befitting reply to those who have been misleading farmers by claiming that the Central Government would abolish MSP. He said the government has consistently increased MSP every year, reaffirming its commitment to the interests of farmers.
