Oct22,2026 | Gurvinder Singh Mohali | Chandigarh

**Chandigarh, October 22:** Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Sardar Pargat Singh expressed concern over the Punjab Assembly session concluding in just nine minutes, saying that important issues concerning the state should have been discussed in detail. He demanded answers from the government on matters of public interest, including the Parminder Singh Jhota murder case, and urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take moral responsibility.

Pargat Singh said the concerns of various sections, including government employees, computer teachers, ETT teachers and PRTC employees, needed serious attention. He expressed hope that the government would take effective steps to address public grievances and administrative challenges facing the state.

He also raised the issue of Parminder Singh Jhota and MGNREGA workers who lost their lives in an accident being omitted from the Assembly's condolence list. He said such cases required sensitivity and that the individuals concerned deserved due respect. He called for a review to determine the reasons behind the omission.

Referring to the Jhota case, Pargat Singh called for an impartial investigation into questions surrounding the alleged sale of intoxicant capsules, action taken against shops and the issuance of an arms licence to the accused. He said that if any negligence or irregularities were found at any level, the officials concerned should be held accountable.

Commenting on Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Punjab, he said the Centre and the state government should work together to take concrete measures to tackle the drug problem and safeguard Punjab's interests. He also urged the Central Government to consider the demand for a CBI investigation into the Jhota case.

Pargat Singh said issues affecting the people of Punjab should be discussed and addressed above political differences. He stressed the need to prioritise the state's interests and called for greater accountability from the government in resolving public grievances.
