20kg More Heroin Recovered In Amritsar; Four Held

In yet another strike within a week in the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of four individuals and recovered 20 kg of heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Rohan, a resident of Baba Jiwan Singh colony in Amritsar, Deepak Bakhshi, a resident of Partap Bazar in Amritsar, Rishabh Kumar, a resident of Golden Avenue in Amritsar and Ishaan Bedi, a resident of New Ranjit Pura in Amritsar. Apart from seizing big haul of heroin, police teams have also impounded their two motorcycles— Black coloured Splendor (PB02-BT-3925) and Red coloured Passion Pro (PB02-CL-4487)— being used for transporting the consignment.

With this latest seizure, CI Amritsar has successfully pushed the total recovery of heroin to 74 kg in just a week, having previously recovered 27 kg, 10 kg and 17 kg heroin consignments.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the module was being operated by a Dubai-based drug smuggler in coordination with his Punjab-based associates and foreign-based smugglers.

Sharing operational details, he said that CI Amritsar teams had received a specific input that operatives of Dubai-based smuggler has retrieved a huge consignment of heroin from the Indo- Pak border area of Village Rajatal, District Tarn Taran sent via drones from across the border and they are coming in the area near Dana Mandi, Satlani Sahib Gurudwara in Amritsar to deliver the consignment to some other party. Acting swiftly, police team conducted raid and intercepted four individuals identified as Rohan, Deepak Bakshi, Rishabh and Ishaan Bedi from the area and recovered 20 kg heroin from their possession, he said.

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to uncover the complete network and its backward and forward linkages.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 61 dated 23-09-2026 under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
