Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP₹ leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia on Wednesday challenged those questioning the state’s government schools to place today’s progress against the grim reality that existed before 2022, when four lakh children were sitting on floors and thousands of schools lacked even drinking water. Pointing to the transformation achieved in just 4.5 years, he said Punjab’s nearly 20,000 government schools have witnessed major infrastructure and academic improvements, including 9,000-plus new classrooms and labs, 13,920 toilets, two lakh desks, over 10,000 interactive panels and boundary walls, even as restoration continues in 500 severely damaged schools among the 7,000 hit by two devastating floods.
The AAP Punjab Prabhari also underlined the growing public confidence in government education, with 3.64 lakh children moving from private to government schools, NEET qualifiers rising from 80 to 882, and Punjab becoming the country’s first state to teach AI from Classes 1 to 12, while urging credible journalists to show the complete picture and honestly compare the AAP government’s 4.5-year record with the 15–20 years of Congress and Akali-BJP rule.
Addressing those seeking to speak or report impartially, senior AAP leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia said, “If you genuinely want to speak or do journalism impartially, then once put the old picture and today’s account together and tell the people the truth.”
The AAP Punjab Prabhari said, “When Bhagwant Singh Mann became Chief Minister in 2022, most government schools in Punjab did not have toilets, four lakh children were sitting on floors, and thousands of schools did not even have access to drinking water.”
He said that in just 4.5 years, a major transformation has taken place across nearly 20,000 government schools of Punjab, with the following key achievements:
* More than 9,000 new classrooms and labs have been constructed.
* 13,920 new toilets have been provided.
* Two lakh new desks have been installed.
* More than 10,000 interactive panels have been installed.
* Advanced computer labs have been established in 5,012 schools.
* Every school has Wi-Fi.
* Boundary walls have been constructed in 99% of schools.
Manish Sisodia further said that more than 7,000 schools were affected by two devastating floods, while restoration work on 500 severely damaged schools is still underway. “Much more work is still underway, but the direction, speed and intent are absolutely clear,” he said.
Calling out sections of the media, Manish Sisodia said, “As far as the BJP or Congress’s score-setters are concerned, what answer can I give to the Godi Media or Pappu Media? They will try to show the picture from the angle from which a negative atmosphere about the AAP can be created.”
At the same time, he made an appeal to impartial journalists, including those whom he personally respects, to present the complete picture of Punjab’s progress. “To some impartial journalists, whom I personally respect, I request that, if possible, show the complete truth that in 4.5 years this much work has been done in Punjab and this much has not been done. Also honestly compare our 4.5 years of work with the 15–20 years of work done by the Congress and BJP before your followers. Talk about both things,” he said.
Manish Sisodia said that if coverage based on the perspective of ‘Godi Media’ or ‘Pappu Media’ is used as the basis for presenting an incomplete truth as one’s own or as the complete truth, the AAP would also work to correct it. “If you make the incomplete truth being presented from the angle of Godi or Pappu Media the basis and present that incomplete truth as your own or as the complete truth, then we too will do the work of correcting it. Even if you then call it ‘battling out’ or describe it as being ‘personally attacking’ you, that is your own discretion,” he said.
The former Delhi Education Minister stressed that government schools cannot be judged merely by the construction of new buildings, saying that their real identity lies in the results achieved by students and the trust placed in them by parents.
Highlighting the outcomes of the transformation in Punjab’s government school education system, Manish Sisodia said:
* 3.64 lakh children have left private schools and joined government schools.
* The number of NEET qualifiers has increased from 80 to 882.
* In four years, 2,166 children qualified NEET and 786 qualified JEE. “This had never happened before,” he said.
* 2.30 lakh children learned how to run their own businesses through Business Blasters.
* Punjab became the first state in the country to introduce AI education from Classes 1 to 12.
* 40 Skill Education Schools have been started.
Manish Sisodia said the Punjab government is not claiming that the work in education had been completed. “There is no claim that the work of education in Punjab is complete. But there is certainly proof that decades of deterioration have been transformed in four years,” he said.
He said that while government schools can be improved through budgetary allocations, public trust can only be restored through honest hard work. “Government schools improve with budgets, but the trust of the people in them returns only through honest hard work. The Bhagwant Mann government has restored that trust and demonstrated it,” Manish Sisodia concluded.
