In Mann Government, Teej Celebrations Mean Women’s Happiness, Dignity and Rights: Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann

The special events organised in Moga and Baghapurana on the auspicious festival of Teej showcased a vibrant picture of Punjab’s folk culture, women’s enthusiasm and ‘Rangla Punjab’. A large number of women participated in these events organised by Moga MLA Amandeep Kaur Arora and Baghapurana MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand, celebrating Teej with Giddha, boliyan, folk songs and traditional Punjabi attire.

Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, participated as chief guest in both events. Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill and State Observer Punjab Gayatri Bishnoi were also present on the occasion.

On this occasion, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said, “Teej is not just a festival of peengh, Giddha and boliyan, but a celebration of the happiness, self-respect and mutual brotherhood of the women of Punjab.” She said that women of Punjab are moving forward in every field through their hard work and courage, and government schemes are further strengthening their journey.

Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said that the Maavan-Dhiyan satkar yogna is becoming a means of economic support as well as self-reliance and dignity for women. She said that the financial assistance being provided under the scheme is helping women meet their day-to-day needs and reducing their dependence on others for their small and major expenses.

She said that during conversations with women at the Teej celebrations, it was clearly visible that there was enthusiasm and happiness among them regarding the Maavan-Dheeyan satkar yogna. Women said that they were using the amount credited to their accounts for their personal needs, expenses related to their children and essential household and family requirements.

She said that the objective of CM Bhagwant Mann led-Punjab Government is not merely to formulate schemes but to ensure that their benefits reach women directly, so that the mothers and daughters of Punjab can become economically stronger and take their own decisions.

“When a mother or daughter has her own money to fulfil her needs, a difference can also be seen in her confidence. This economic dignity is the real foundation of women’s empowerment,” said Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann.

Raj Lali Gill said that women of Punjab, while keeping their culture alive, are also making their strong presence felt in every sphere of society. Meanwhile, Gayatri Bishnoi said that such programmes provide women an opportunity to connect with one another, share their views and pass on their cultural heritage to the next generation.

The large participation of women in the Teej celebrations held in Moga and Baghapurana conveyed the message that women of Punjab are a strong force behind Punjab’s social and economic transformation.
