NEW DELHI:
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has expressed deep concern over the death by suicide of an IIT Delhi student, calling it a deeply tragic incident and demanding a fair investigation into the matter. He pointed out that more than 65 IIT students have died by suicide in the past five years, calling the situation deeply alarming.
The former Delhi CM emphasised educational institutions must ensure that students are heard and receive support in difficult situations. He stressed that the entire system needs to be fixed and that students cannot be allowed to be let down.
On Tuesday, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal took to 'X' and wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Rishikesh at IIT Delhi. There must be a fair and time-bound investigation into the matter, and all concerns of the students must be addressed. More than 65 IIT students have died by suicide over the past five years, and this situation is deeply concerning.”
Reflecting on academic excellence, he added, “We take pride in the academic excellence of our IIT institutions, and rightly so. But the measure of our excellence cannot stop at ranks, grades and placements.”
Calling for institutional introspection, the AAP Chief emphasised, “We must ensure that every student receives the support they need, has someone who will listen to them, and has a safe environment in which they can seek help during difficult times. We need to introspect and fix this entire system. We cannot let our students down like this.”
