In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur, in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF), has busted a major cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of two individuals, and recovered 30.200 kg of heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.
Those arrested have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of village Walle Shah Uttar in Fazilka and Manpreet Singh, a resident of village Nawan Hasta in Fazilka. Apart from recovering big haul of heroin, police teams have also impounded their Hero Deluxe motorcycle (PB-05-AS-9856) being used for smuggling activities.
The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the cross-border smuggling network and identify all persons associated with the cross-border handlers.
Sharing operational details, AIG CI Ferozepur Gursewak Singh said that acting upon specific tip-off, the Police team conducted a special joint operation with BSF Fazilka near village Satirwala at Hindumalkot road in Fazilka. During this operation, the police party apprehended two suspected persons travelling on the motorcycle and recovered 30.200 kg heroin from their possession, he said.
The AIG said that more arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days as the investigation progresses.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 14 dated 07-08-2026 under sections 21-C, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Fazilka.
