Work on 1.40-km main entry road to city to commence within this week, project aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity

In a major infrastructure boost for Kapurthala city, the Kapurthala–Bye Pass Chowk to D.C. Chowk road, one of the important entry routes to the city, is set to undergo comprehensive upgradation at a cost of Rs 79.74 lakh. The Public Works Department (PWD) would commence work on the 1.40-kilometre-long stretch within this week.
The upgradation of the important road would provide significant relief to residents, daily commuters and visitors, besides improving the overall traffic movement on one of the key approaches to the city.
Providing more information, Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal said that the district administration had accorded priority to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safe, smooth and convenient movement for the people. He said that the road was particularly important as it serves as a main entry point to Kapurthala city, witnessing movement of a large number of vehicles every day. Its improvement would not only benefit commuters but also have a positive impact on the overall accessibility and appearance of the city.
He said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was committed to strengthening road infrastructure and improving connectivity across the state. He added that the concerned authorities have been directed to ensure that the project is executed strictly according to the prescribed technical specifications and quality standards. He said that the work should be completed within the stipulated timeframe of a week while ensuring minimum inconvenience to commuters during the construction period.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was also laying special focus on providing better roads and hassle-free connectivity to the people of Kapurthala. Appealing to residents to actively bring road-related issues to the administration's notice, he said that anyone finding a road in poor condition or requiring repair can contact the District Administration Helpline at 01822-233777, so that the matter can be taken up with the concerned department for necessary action at the earliest.
PWD Executive Engineer Vishal Jangral said that the department would closely monitor the execution of the project to ensure that the work is completed as per the approved specifications and within the prescribed timeline. He said that the concerned contractor would also be responsible for maintenance of the upgraded road for a period of five years, thereby ensuring sustained quality and proper upkeep of the important road stretch.
