*Chandigarh, September 15:*

Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian today reviewed the preparedness of the state for the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)–2026 campaign, which will be observed across Punjab from September 17 to October 2, 2026, under the theme “Participate in Swachhta, Swachh Bharat, Developed Bharat”.

The Cabinet Minister participated through video conferencing in an important meeting chaired by the Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the preparations, planning and proposed activities for the effective implementation of SHS–2026 with particular focus on rural areas.

While reviewing the arrangements for the campaign in Punjab, S. Hardeep Singh Mundian apprised the Union Government of the state’s preparedness and the measures being undertaken to ensure effective implementation of the campaign at the grassroots level. He said that the Punjab Government is making concerted efforts to ensure active participation of Gram Panchayats, local communities and various stakeholders in cleanliness and sanitation activities across rural Punjab.

The Cabinet Minister said that the campaign would provide further impetus to ongoing efforts to make villages cleaner, healthier and more sustainable. He stressed that sanitation cannot be sustained through government interventions alone and requires active ownership and participation from citizens, Panchayats and communities.

During the meeting, the “Swachh Seva Assessment” was also launched for Gram Panchayats. The initiative is aimed at strengthening assessment of sanitation-related activities at the village level and encouraging greater community participation in cleanliness and hygiene efforts.

S. Hardeep Singh Mundian said that Punjab is committed to translating the objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva–2026 into visible action on the ground and ensuring that the campaign creates a lasting impact beyond the campaign period. He said that cleanliness, sanitation and responsible waste management must become an integral part of everyday life.

The Cabinet Minister called upon the people of Punjab to participate wholeheartedly in Swachhata Hi Seva-2026 and contribute to cleanliness drives in their villages and communities. He urged citizens to treat cleanliness not merely as a campaign but as a shared responsibility and a sustained public movement.

“Let us join hands to make Punjab clean and healthy and contribute towards the larger vision of a Swachh Bharat and a Viksit Bharat,” he said.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Sh. Ramvir, Principal Secretary, Water Supply and Sanitation Department; Mrs. Syed Sehrish Asgar, Head of Department and other senior officers.
