Christian Medical College (CMC) Ludhiana has taken a significant step towards strengthening emergency medical services in Punjab by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the district health administration under the India-EMS Project, supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The MoU was signed between Dr. Jeyaraj Durai Pandian and Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, reflecting a strong collaboration between academic institutions and the public healthcare system. This agreement builds upon an earlier MoU signed in 2025, under which critical equipment such as multipara monitors, ECG machines, and defibrillators were provided. The new agreement further enhances emergency preparedness with the provision of computers, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
Under “Mission Swasth Kavach,” cascade training programs are being conducted in Manupur and Sudhar blocks to train ASHA workers, ANMs, and CHOs in CPR, first aid, and rapid response during the “platinum minutes.” Awareness about 108 ambulance services is also being promoted.
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur said, “This initiative will be a milestone in strengthening grassroots healthcare, enabling timely emergency response and saving precious lives.”
Dr. Jeyaraj Pandian added, “The India-EMS Project aims to build a strong link between communities and hospitals, empowering people to act effectively during the critical early minutes of emergencies.”
The program aims to train at least five first responders in every village, bridging the gap between community and hospital care.
