Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal demanded the hanging of those behind the multi-crore ‘chanda-chori' (theft of offerings) at Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and called out the ‘Chanda Chor Party’ of shielding the main culprits by trapping lower-level functionaries through a ‘farzi’ (fake) Special Investigation Team (SIT), fake First Information Report (FIR) and fake arrests. He also called for a nationwide social boycott of the party, revealing that those responsible for the theft are themselves in charge of the investigation.
Addressing a press conference alongwith AAP UP State Prabhari and Rajya MP Sanjay Singh, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal stated, "A massive ‘chanda-chori' (theft of offerings) has taken place in Ram Lalla's own home. Bhagwan Ram's ornaments, His necklace, His padukas, the silver, gold, diamonds and precious jewels offered to Him, crores and even billions of rupees in cash, and who knows what else, have all been stolen from Bhagwan Ram's home. Very powerful monsters are involved in this theft."
Referring to the sentiments of devotees, he said, "Crores of people have immense faith in Bhagwan Ram. That faith has been deeply hurt. People are deeply pained. I, too, am deeply hurt. That is why I visited the Ram Temple today to seek the blessings of Bhagwan Ram."
Speaking about the investigation, the AAP Supremo asserted, "The people who committed this theft and those involved in this massive ‘chanda-chori' are, unfortunately, the very people who now have to take action. Obviously, they are not going to act against themselves. Instead, they are doing everything possible to protect themselves. First, a fake SIT (Special Investigation Team) was constituted, and yesterday a fake FIR (First Information Report) was registered. In that fake FIR, only eight small pawns have been named.”
He pointed out, “There are no big names in it. So there is a fake FIR and a fake SIT. On one hand, such a massive robbery has taken place, and on the other, efforts are being made to shield the powerful people involved. This is nothing but rubbing salt into the wounds of every Hindu."
Highlighting public anger, he added, "People are saying that their souls will not find peace until those responsible for this theft, especially the powerful people behind it, are hanged."
Giving examples to explain the hurt caused to devotees, Arvind Kejriwal said, "The Sindhi Association donated 200 kilograms of silver on 26 January 2021. They did not receive a receipt, nor did they insist on one, because they had complete faith that they were making an offering to Bhagwan Ram. Who asks for a receipt when offering donations to God?”
He added, “For five years, they never demanded one. But after reading about this entire matter in newspapers and watching the reports in the media, they were shaken. Now they are asking, 'Where has our 200 kilograms of silver gone?' Their faith in Bhagwan Ram remains unshaken, but their trust in those running the temple and their superiors has been shaken.”
Referring to the fall in offerings, the AAP Chief emphasised, "Lakhs of devotees visit the temple every day and make offerings. Newspapers have reported that the temple used to receive around ₹12 lakh to ₹14 lakh in donations every day. Since these reports surfaced in the media, that amount has fallen to less than ₹1 lakh. People's faith has been deeply hurt. This is not an isolated case. There are countless such examples appearing in newspapers every day."
Continuing with another example, Arvind Kejriwal said, "A person donated two ‘deepaks’ (earthen lamps), one of which was used to light the ‘akhand jyoti’. After the Pran Pratishtha ceremony, he says there is no trace of that ‘deepak’. Many people are now demanding an account of the donations they made. There are people who sold their land, jewellery and even all their household belongings to dedicate everything to Bhagwan Ram. Today, their faith has been deeply hurt."
He stated, "Bhagwan Ram accepted 14 years of exile in an instant simply because His father Dasharatha wished for it. That evening, when Mata Kaikeyi told Him that He would have to leave for the forest for 14 years the very next morning, despite His coronation being scheduled for that day, He smiled and said it was His great fortune. He kicked power aside."
Drawing a political comparison, the AAP Supremo asserted, "Using the name of Bhagwan Ram, this ‘Chanda Chor Party’ came to power over the last 30 years by collecting donations in the name of building the Ram Mandir. They misused the name of Maryada Purushottam Bhagwan Ram to gain power, and ever since coming to power, they have turned the Ram Temple into a victim of their greed for money."
Questioning the financial dealings, he said, "How much theft has taken place? Every day, new revelations are coming out. There was land-related theft as well. Money was siphoned off through land deals. Kusum Pathak and Harish Pathak sold their 1.25-hectare land on 18 March 2021 for ₹2 crore to two people associated with the ‘Chanda Chor Party’. Within just 10 minutes, the temple trust purchased that same land from those people for ₹18.5 crore. That means ₹16.5 crore belonging to Bhagwan Ram's trust was siphoned off.”
He asserted that there are countless such cases. Complaints have been filed repeatedly the people who are supposed to take action are themselves involved. They will never act against themselves. They will catch small cashiers, watchmen and gardeners, but no action will be taken against those sitting at the top.
Speaking about the temple's construction, Arvind Kejriwal added, "Serious allegations have also been made regarding the construction of the Ram Mandir. It is alleged that commissions were taken in every tender. Work worth ₹2 was carried out for ₹10 or ₹20. Now it is also emerging that after the temple was built and opened, large-scale theft took place involving the offerings made by devotees."
Targeting the ruling party, he said, "Hindus left no stone unturned in giving their love to the Chanda Chor Party, but the Chanda Chor Party also left no stone unturned in hurting the faith of Hindus. The betrayal inflicted upon Hindus is perhaps unmatched in the history of India."
Referring to the temple administration, the AAP Chief said, "The trust and the trustees all belong to them. The entire management of the temple is under their control. A massive theft and a huge robbery have taken place in the temple, and now the same people are trying to cover it up."
Questioning the role of senior officials, Arvind Kejriwal asked, "Such large-scale theft was taking place every single day. Are we expected to believe that the people at the top knew nothing? They now claim only cashiers or lower-level staff are involved. If an idol is stolen from a temple, that may be a one-time incident. But when theft takes place every day on such a massive scale, complaints are made repeatedly, and eight months of CCTV footage disappears, it clearly means the conspiracy goes right to the top."
Raising larger questions, the AAP Chief stated, "The country wants to know, the entire Hindu community wants to know, everyone wants to know how many thousands of crores of rupees were stolen and where all that money went. Where did the stolen diamonds, precious jewels, silver, padukas, necklace and Bhagwan Ram's ornaments go? What was the final destination of that money? The trail leads right to the top.
