➖ Two Units of Ropar Thermal Plant Completely Shut Down; Generation Capacity of Rajpura and Talwandi Thermal Plants Reduced

Chandigarh, September 16:
Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party Former State President and Pathankot MLA Ashwani Sharma has termed the prolonged power cuts being witnessed across Punjab for the past several days as a failure of the Bhagwant Mann government.

In a statement issued from the party office in Chandigarh, Ashwani Sharma expressed concern over the situation and said that the Punjab government has failed to resolve the problem. Meanwhile, people across the state are facing considerable hardship due to the power shortage. He said that on Tuesday, two units of the Ropar Thermal Plant were completely shut down, further aggravating the power crisis.

Sharma said that the Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo thermal plants are also not operating at full capacity due to technical reasons. The combined power generation capacity of these thermal plants is 1,468 MW, but at present, it has reportedly fallen to only 300 MW.

He said that the power shortage has persisted during the summer season, causing considerable inconvenience to people across the state.

Sharma said that government thermal plants are having to purchase more electricity from the Central Pool. The solar power project is also generating only 200 to 300 MW of electricity, which is below its capacity.
Sharma said that the Punjab government has failed to resolve the power crisis. People across the state are facing severe inconvenience due to the shortage and are expressing their resentment against the government, but the state government has so far failed to take any concrete steps to address the problem.
