Addressing BJP rally at Baba Bakala on the occasion of Rakhar Puniya, Tarun Chugh targets AAP and Congress

Baba Bakala Sahib, Amritsar/Chandigarh, August 28, 2026

Bharatiya Janata Party National Office In-charge, Gujarat BJP In-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh today addressed a BJP rally at Baba Bakala Sahib on the auspicious occasion of Rakhar Puniya and said that the BJP stands with the people of Punjab with a firm commitment to protect Punjab’s faith, the hard work of its farmers, the future of its youth, the dignity of women and daughters, and the security of communities living along the international border.

Chugh said that Majha is not merely the pride of Punjab but also India’s strategic shield. Spirituality, sacrifice, the strength of its farmers and valour define the identity of Majha. The region represents the convergence of the border and opportunity, tradition and modern development. For the BJP, Majha is not the last frontier of Punjab but the first gateway to a developed Punjab. He said that along with strengthening security in the border areas, providing better roads, education, healthcare, sports facilities and employment opportunities to border villages is a key priority. The menace of cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons must also be dealt with firmly.

Chugh said that the time has come for Punjab’s politics to move beyond advertisements and announcements and be judged on the basis of intent, policy and results. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party had made tall promises to the people of Punjab, but despite receiving a full mandate from the people, it has failed to fulfil those commitments. He alleged that the AAP government has pushed Punjab deeper into a quagmire of corruption.

On the issue of youth employment, Chugh said that before coming to power, the AAP had made tall promises of providing jobs to Punjab’s youth and freeing them from the menace of drugs. However, even after nearly five years in office, young people continue to struggle for employment and a fair recruitment system. Referring to the questions raised over the Excise Inspector recruitment results in Punjab, Chugh said that allegations of serious irregularities in the recruitment process have damaged the confidence of Punjab’s youth. He said that deserving youngsters from ordinary families must receive a transparent and fair opportunity, rather than those benefiting from political patronage.

Chugh asked the Punjab government to explain how many young people from poor and ordinary families have actually been provided employment during its tenure. He said that the basic responsibility of any government is to ensure a transparent and corruption-free system, but people in Punjab continue to face difficulties even in getting routine government work done.

Citing the performance of BJP’s double-engine governments, Chugh said that the BJP has followed a policy of providing employment to young people without favouritism or political influence. He said that more than two lakh youngsters have been provided government jobs in Haryana through transparent recruitment processes. Citing the example of Punahana, he said that 29 youngsters from the same area secured government employment without any recommendation or payment. This, he said, demonstrates that when a government has clear intent, youngsters from ordinary families get an equal opportunity to succeed.

Chugh said that on one hand, the Aam Aadmi Party is mired in rampant corruption, while factionalism is at its peak within the Congress. On the other hand, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party is writing a new development story across the country. He said that the time has come to bring the BJP’s double-engine model of development and governance to Punjab as well.

Chugh said that the BJP does not merely make election announcements but has a record of fulfilling its commitments. He said this is the fundamental difference between the BJP and the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP makes commitments and works to fulfil them, while opposition parties make announcements and forget the people once elections are over.

Referring to the ₹500 LPG cylinder scheme for eligible families being implemented by the BJP’s double-engine government in Haryana under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chugh said that the BJP government has fulfilled its commitment and the benefits are reaching eligible families. He said that BJP governments are translating their commitments into action, from providing relief to poor and middle-class families in their kitchens to creating employment opportunities for youth and ensuring support for patients and their healthcare needs.

Chugh said that the people of Punjab have moved beyond the politics of promises and advertisements. Punjab needs a government with clear intent, sound policies and visible results on the ground. He said that from the sacred land of Baba Bakala Sahib, the BJP’s commitment is clear: Punjab must move forward with security and development together, while remaining free from drugs, organised criminal networks and mafia. He said that the BJP will work with full determination to make Punjab a safe, prosperous and developed state.
