Kewal Singh Dhillon says growing BJP ranks signal major political shift ahead of Punjab Assembly elections

Jalandhar/Chandigarh, September 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a major boost in Jalandhar on Wednesday as Dinesh Dhall, incumbent Vice-Chairman of the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) and former in-charge of the Jalandhar North Assembly constituency, joined the party along with a large number of his supporters and more than a dozen office-bearers associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon formally welcomed Dhall and the other leaders into the BJP, describing their joining as a significant strengthening of the party's organisational base in Jalandhar and across Punjab.

Those joining the BJP along with Dinesh Dhall included councillor Amit Dhall, AAP Bazigar Board chairman Manpreet Sonu, former district president of the Nasha Mukti Morcha Ranjit Singh, Dilkusha Market Jalandhar chairman and Jalandhar North Doctors’ Wing president Navdeep Madan, Gujjar Samaj Jalandhar North chairman Sonu Chaudhary, Ward No. 2 in-charge Amit Sharma, former Jalandhar North youth coordinator Anil Dhall Bobby, Prajapat Samaj Jalandhar North chairman Vikram Kaushal, Ward No. 26 in-charge Puneet Vadera, Swarnkar Board Jalandhar North chairman Ashok Kumar, Nasha Mukti Morcha block coordinator Vikram Kaushal and ward coordinator Pawan Nanda, besides several other supporters.

Welcoming the new entrants, Kewal Singh Dhillon said the BJP family was continuously expanding and the party was emerging stronger with the support of leaders and workers from different sections of society.

“The joining of Dinesh Dhall and several prominent leaders from Jalandhar North will further strengthen the BJP at the grassroots level. The BJP’s organisation is growing rapidly across Punjab, while leaders and workers from other political parties are increasingly looking towards the BJP as a strong alternative,” Dhillon said.

He assured the newly inducted leaders that they would receive due respect and appropriate responsibilities within the party.

Dhillon said the growing number of leaders joining the BJP reflected what he described as a changing political mood in Punjab. Taking a swipe at the ruling AAP, he said the entry of its prominent leaders into the BJP was an indication that the party was losing its organisational strength.

“The AAP ship is sinking, while the BJP’s caravan is continuously growing stronger. People from every section of society are joining the BJP because they see the party as a strong and credible force for Punjab's future,” he said.

The Punjab BJP chief further claimed that youth, farmers, labourers, employees and teachers were dissatisfied with the performance of the AAP government. He alleged that issues such as drug abuse, gangsterism and law and order had become serious concerns in the state.

Dhillon also referred to Punjab's rising debt and said the state required strong governance and coordinated development efforts. He asserted that a BJP-led double-engine government would provide a stronger framework for Punjab's development.

Claiming that the political situation in Punjab was changing rapidly, Dhillon said the BJP was working to further strengthen its organisation across every constituency ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

“The people of Punjab are looking for change, and the increasing support for the BJP clearly shows that the party is gaining strength across the state. We are confident that Punjab will witness a major political transformation in 2027,” he said.

State BJP general secretary Anil Sareen, former MLA KD Bhandari, SC Morcha state president Sheetal Angural, district president Ashok Sareen Hicky, Sushil Sharma, Amit Taneja and a large number of BJP leaders and workers were present on the occasion.
