Glada Demolishes Nine Illegal Colonies In Ludhiana

Sep3,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Ludhiana

: Acting on the directions of Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized and unplanned development across Ludhiana district.
GLADA Chief Administrator Vikas Hira, PCS, said the authority has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards illegal colonies and those misleading residents by offering plots in unauthorized developments that lack statutory approvals and basic government-mandated infrastructure.
As part of the ongoing drive, a joint team comprising a Duty Magistrate, police personnel and GLADA’s Regulatory Wing demolished nine unauthorized colonies in the villages of Dhandra and Manakwal on September 3. The team dismantled roads and demolished ongoing illegal constructions and structures at the sites.
Officials said the action was taken after the colony developers failed to stop construction despite notices and demolition orders issued by the Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA. The demolition operation was carried out without any opposition.
GLADA officials said more such enforcement drives will be conducted in the coming weeks to prevent the growth of illegal colonies at an early stage.
The GLADA Chief Administrator appealed to residents to verify the legal status of a property before purchasing plots, houses or buildings in any colony. He cautioned that unauthorized colonies may not receive essential facilities such as water supply, sewerage and electricity connections from GLADA.
Prospective buyers have been advised to check the list of approved and regularized colonies and sanctioned layouts available on the official GLADA website before making any property investment.
GLADA will also continue initiating strict legal action under the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act against individuals involved in unauthorized development in Ludhiana district.
