In a decisive move to strengthen road safety and ensure seamless highway operations, Project Implementation Unit (PIU)–Ambala, under NHAI Regional Office, Chandigarh, undertook a massive anti-encroachment drive along NH-44 in Karnal on the Panipat–Khanna corridor, maintained under the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) regime.
The drive targeted unauthorised structures, roadside obstructions and encroachments within the highway right-of-way, with the objective of keeping the national highway safe, accessible and free from impediments.
The action is part of NHAI’s continued efforts to safeguard highway land, improve traffic movement and ensure that routine maintenance, emergency response and other highway operations are carried out without obstruction.
NH-44 is a critical national transportation corridor carrying heavy passenger and commercial traffic. Encroachments not only restrict the effective use of highway land but can also create serious safety hazards, obstruct visibility and hamper emergency and maintenance operations.
The concerned teams have reiterated that the cleared stretches will be regularly monitored to prevent re-encroachment. Stakeholders along the highway have also been advised to refrain from unauthorised occupation of highway land.
The initiative reinforces the commitment to keeping the Panipat–Khanna section of NH-44 safe, efficient, obstruction-free and fully operational in the interest of road users and the wider public.
