On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Kapurthala Police on Saturday organised a special cyber crime awareness initiative to educate the public about online frauds and precautions to be taken to stay safe from cyber criminals.
The initiative was carried out by the Cyber Crime Kapurthala team on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora and in compliance with the directions issued by the Special Director General of Police, State Cyber Crime, Punjab, Mohali.
As part of the campaign, banners highlighting the cyber crime helpline number 1930 and important safety precautions against cyber fraud were displayed at the district-level Independence Day function held at Guru Nanak Stadium, Kapurthala. Pamphlets containing information on cyber safety measures were also distributed among the people attending the function.
During the programme, the public was sensitised about various forms of cyber fraud and advised to remain cautious while sharing personal, banking and other sensitive information online. People were also urged to immediately report any cyber fraud by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline No. 1930.
The officials appealed to residents to remain vigilant against cyber fraud and spread awareness about cyber safety among their family members, relatives and friends.
The police reiterated that timely reporting of cyber financial fraud in 1930 can help in taking prompt action and preventing further loss.
