Senior officers lead focused women-safety initiative at vulnerable points near educational institutions
Ludhiana, September 03, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to the safety and security of women students, Ludhiana Police, under the proactive leadership of Commissioner of Police Sh. Swapan Sharma, IPS, conducted a special anti-eve-teasing drive around Khalsa College for Women, near Ghumar Mandi, and Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNE College), Gill Road.
The initiative was specifically aimed at preventing eve-teasing, harassment and nuisance around college premises and ensuring that women students are able to commute to and from their institutions in a safe, secure and stress-free environment. Dedicated police teams maintained a visible presence at college gates and other vulnerable locations to deter inappropriate behaviour and closely monitor suspicious loitering.
The drive outside Khalsa College for Women was led by Sh. Arvind Meena, IPS, DCP Law & Order, accompanied by Smt. Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, PPS, ADCP Investigation & EO Wing, Smt Roopdeep Kaur, PPS, ACP PBI Special Crime, and Sh. Harjinder Singh, PPS, ACP PBI Economic Offences & Cyber Crime.
Simultaneously, the operation outside Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Gill Road, was led by Sh. Paramjit Singh, PPS, DCP Special Branch, accompanied by Sh. Karanveer Singh, PPS, ADCP-2, and Sh. Guriqbal Singh, PPS, ACP Licensing & Security, along with dedicated teams from local police stations and the Traffic Police.
Women’s Safety Remains the Primary Focus
Police personnel actively monitored vulnerable spots surrounding the colleges to prevent harassment and ensure the secure passage of female students. Individuals found loitering without valid reason or creating public nuisance were checked and reprimanded as part of the preventive policing exercise.
The focused deployment reflects Ludhiana Police’s continued efforts to create safer educational surroundings where women students can pursue their studies without fear of harassment or intimidation.
Supporting Enforcement Action
As part of the comprehensive checking drive, police also took action against traffic and vehicle-related violations around the educational institutions.
A total of 73 challans were issued against the miscreant loitering in the vicinity of the educational institutions on the spot, including:
- 43 for riding without helmets
- 15 for triple riding
- 7 for motorcycles fitted with modified silencers
- 8 for illegally modified vehicles
Strict inspections were also conducted against motorcycles fitted with modified silencers causing excessive noise and disturbance around educational institutions.
Ludhiana Police’s Commitment
Ludhiana Police reiterated that the protection of women students and the maintenance of a safe environment around schools and colleges will remain a priority. Similar surprise anti-eve-teasing and preventive policing drives will continue across vulnerable educational zones in the city, and citizens are encouraged to promptly report any harassment or suspicious activity through official police helpline numbers.
