Chandigarh, August 12, 2026: Former Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister late Beant Singh, welcomed the positive report sent by Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs regarding Jagtar Singh Hawara’s parole application on humanitarian grounds.
Bittu said he met the Governor and thanked him for his sensitive and humanitarian approach, particularly considering the condition of Hawara’s elderly and ailing mother. He said that on humanitarian grounds, an elderly and sick mother should be given an opportunity to meet her son.
He said that the family of late Beant Singh also supports this humanitarian initiative and believes that a mother should not be made to suffer for the actions of her son. Bittu expressed hope that the competent authority would consider the matter at the earliest and take an appropriate decision in accordance with the law.
He said that his family would always honour the supreme sacrifice of Beant Singh, while also believing that compassion, humanity and peace should remain guiding principles for society to move forward.
