Government Of India Launches Second Phase Of Special Social Empowerment Camps In Ludhiana: Sukhwinder Singh Bindra

* First-ever social empowerment campaign of this scale launched
* Following the successful completion of camps in Ludhiana’s rural Assembly constituencies, camps are now being organized in urban Assembly constituencies
* Assessment of eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities for free assistive devices is underway


Ludhiana, August 5: Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member of the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Special Invitee Member of the National Council for Cooperative Development and Research (NCCDR), and Former Chairman of the Punjab Youth Development Board, Government of Punjab, informed that under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, Special Social Empowerment Assessment Camps are being organized across Ludhiana district from July 23 to August 11. These camps aim to provide free assistive devices to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Shri Bindra stated that, under an important public welfare initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, these special assessment camps are being organized across all rural and urban Assembly constituencies of Ludhiana district. During these camps, eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities are being identified and mapped, while measurements are being taken to ensure that assistive devices are customized according to their physical requirements, enabling them to receive properly fitted equipment.

He further informed that the first phase covering the rural Assembly constituencies of Ludhiana district has been successfully completed. Camps were organized as follows:

* Sahnewal – July 23
* Gill – July 24
* Dakha – July 25
* Ludhiana South – July 26
* Raikot – July 27
* Samrala – July 28

Assessments of eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities have been completed in these constituencies.

The second phase has now commenced, under which camps are being organized in the following Assembly constituencies:

* Khanna – August 4
* Payal – August 5
* Jagraon – August 6
* Atam Nagar – August 7
* Ludhiana East – August 8
* Ludhiana North – August 9
* Ludhiana West – August 10
* Ludhiana Central – August 11

These Social Empowerment Camps are being organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, through the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch, Ludhiana.

During these camps, eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities will undergo assessments, following which they will be provided with free assistive devices and artificial limbs to help them lead more independent, dignified, and improved lives.

Eligible beneficiaries will receive, free of cost, various assistive aids including:

* Motorized tricycles
* Manual and motorized wheelchairs
* Hearing aids
* Walkers
* Crutches
* Smartphones
* Artificial limbs
* Calipers
* Other daily-use assistive devices

Shri Bindra appealed to all eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Ludhiana district to participate in these camps and avail themselves of the benefits of this significant welfare initiative of the Government of India.

In conclusion, Shri Bindra expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar for their visionary leadership and continued support in making this important public welfare campaign possible. He stated that this initiative will greatly benefit senior citizens and persons with disabilities across Ludhiana district.
