· Say it under oath that you won’t align with Akalis, Warring dares BJP
· Says, BJP running with the hare and hunting with the hounds
CHANDIGARH, August 24: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today dared the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders to say it under oath that they will not align with the Shiromani Akali Dal for the ensuing assembly elections in the state.
Responding the announcement made by the BJP general secretary-organisation BL Santosh that the party will contest all the 117 seats on its own, Warring remarked, “this is a classic case of running with the hare and hunting with the hounds”, pointing out that on the one hand Akali and BJP leaders were holding negotiations and on the other hand the BJP leaders were claiming to contest on their own.
The PCC president observed that the BJP was apprehensive and worried that in case it admitted to an alliance with the Akali Dal, most of its rank and file will desert it. “The BJP is only trying to keep its flock together, so that it does not desert and defect”, he remarked.
Warring asked Santosh, if the BJP really wanted to contest all the 117 seats, why did the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed out, this meeting was followed by another round of meetings between the leaders of the two parties.
The PCC president also challenged the BJP leaders to identify 117 candidates for the 117 assembly segments. “What to speak of contesting all the seats, you may not find even a single candidate in a majority of the constituencies across Punjab”, he told the BJP leaders, while advising it not to try to befool people of Punjab.
