CHANDIGARH; 22nd September 2026:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said the BJP-led Central Government is using central agencies to create fear and pressure among Punjab Government officers and obstruct the welfare and development agenda of the Bhagwant Mann government, with the action against the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) coming as the government’s welfare schemes, including the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, continue to gain public support. AAP said targeting a major revenue-generating authority responsible for development activities in Mohali raises serious questions about the Centre’s intent and its attempt to disrupt the Bhagwant Mann Government’s work for the people.

In a statement, AAP said, “The BJP-led Centre is trying to frighten Punjab’s officers through central agencies because it cannot stop the Mann Government’s work politically. GMADA is being targeted, its officers are being put under pressure, and an atmosphere of fear is being created in an institution responsible for the planned development of Mohali.”

The AAP said, “GMADA is a major revenue-generating authority of Punjab and its financial resources form part of the wider economic capacity through which the Punjab government undertakes public welfare and development work. Targeting such an institution at a time when the Bhagwant Mann Government is expanding welfare delivery exposes BJP's larger political objective behind the action.”

The party said, “The BJP cannot stop the Bhagwant Mann Government’s work politically, so it is now trying to create pressure through central agencies. GMADA generates substantial resources for Punjab. These are the resources that enable an elected government to undertake development and provide welfare to its people. When the BJP targets GMADA and frightens its officers, it is ultimately targeting the capacity of the Punjab Government to continue its work for the people.”

The AAP said the Mann Government had introduced major welfare initiatives, including Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, along with extensive measures in healthcare, education, electricity and social welfare. “Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna is providing direct financial support to women across Punjab. The Bhagwant Mann Government has also delivered free electricity, expanded healthcare, strengthened government education and introduced several other schemes for ordinary families. The BJP now wants to put pressure on the institutions and financial resources through which Punjab’s development and welfare work is being carried forward,” it asserted.

The party said, “GMADA is driving the development of Mohali. Major roads, urban infrastructure, IT City, Aerotropolis, Expo City and other projects depend on the authority functioning efficiently. By creating fear among GMADA officers, the BJP is not just targeting a few officials. It is creating obstacles for Mohali’s development and putting the brakes on the progress of an entire city.”

The AAP said the BJP should compete with the Bhagwant Mann Government on governance rather than use central agencies to create an atmosphere of fear. “If the BJP believes that they can challenge the Mann Government then it should come before the people and compete on governance. Why is it instead sending agencies after Punjab’s institutions and officers? Why is it trying to frighten the people who are implementing the government’s development plans?”

The AAP said the pattern is reminiscent of the tactics witnessed before the Delhi Assembly elections. “Before the Delhi elections, the same politics of agencies, raids and pressure was used. The BJP could not stop the political work through normal democratic means, so central agencies were repeatedly brought into the picture. Now the same playbook is being attempted in Punjab. But Punjab will not be intimidated,” the party affirmed.

“Punjab’s officers are working for the people. They should not be forced to work under fear because a government in Delhi wants to put pressure on an elected government in Punjab. The people of Punjab have given CM Bhagwant Singh Mann a mandate to govern, and that mandate cannot be undermined through agency pressure,” the party affirmed.

The party said the Bhagwant Mann Government would continue to expand welfare delivery and accelerate development across Punjab. “The BJP can target offices, summon officers and create as much pressure as it wants. It cannot stop the Mann Government from serving Punjab. Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna will reach women, welfare schemes will continue to benefit families, and Mohali’s development will continue at full pace. Punjab’s progress will not be held hostage to the BJP’s politics of pressure,” affirmed the AAP.
