Aam Aadmi Party (Punjab) spokesperson Neetu Kapoor Singla on Tuesday demanded answers from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and opposition parties over the allegations raised by a woman from Bahrain, questioning how she came to stay at an SGPC sarai for six months and who was responsible for her stay and expenses.
AAP Punjab Spokesperson Neetu Kapoor Singla said she was not there to declare anyone guilty, but was seeking answers about the woman’s stay at an SGPC sarai and the accountability of those responsible for its management. “If all this happened to a woman at an SGPC sarai, who was responsible for her there? Who brought her there? How did she stay there for six months? Who arranged her stay, her ticket and her expenses?” she asked.
Neetu Kapoor Singla said an FIR was registered against SGPC and SAD member Amarjit Singh Chawla in connection with allegations of rape, wrongful confinement and threats.
She said the circumstances surrounding the woman’s stay at the SGPC sarai raised serious questions about who facilitated her stay and who was responsible for her during those six months.
Targeting Akali Dal leader and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Neetu Kapoor Singla questioned her silence despite her recent protest on women’s issues. “You speak loudly about others. What has happened today when the matter concerns your own people? Tell this woman whether she will get justice or not,” she said.
Neetu Kapoor Singla also questioned SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee) president Harjinder Singh Dhami, saying the woman had approached Harjinder Singh Dhami with a complaint. “What happened to that complaint? What action was taken when she approached you?” she asked.
Questioning the silence of the opposition, Neetu Kapoor Singla said neither Congress nor BJP had made any statement on the matter. She specifically questioned Punjab Congress president Raja Warring, BJP leader Sunil Jakhar and Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira. “Sukhpal Khaira speaks against the AAP every morning. Why is he not speaking on this matter today?” she asked.
Neetu Kapoor Singla also sought answers regarding the alleged role of other Akali Dal (Badal) and SGPC-linked individuals, including Youth Akali Dal leader Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer and Virsa Singh Valtoha, particularly over who brought the woman from Bahrain and arranged her stay.
Calling upon the SAD leadership to come forward, Neetu Kapoor Singla said, “Stand with the woman and fight for her. Whoever has committed a crime should be brought before the people and held accountable.”
Neetu Kapoor Singla said the matter could not be reduced to political allegations and counter-allegations, as the people of Punjab deserved answers. “She is also a daughter of Punjab. Who brought her from Bahrain? How did she stay at an SGPC sarai for six months? Who arranged her stay and expenses? We want answers to all these questions,” she said.
Neetu Kapoor Singla also questioned SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal over what action they would take. “We want justice for the woman and answers to these questions. We do not want silence. Punjab is demanding answers, not silence,” she said.
