- Office-bearers and members of Garhwal Sabhas from Kharar, Mohali and Dera Bassi join BJP
- PM Modi’s development-oriented policies driving growing support for BJP: Kewal Singh Dhillon
In a major boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organisational strength in Punjab, around 250 leaders and members of the Garhwal community joined the party on Sunday, leaving various political outfits and pledging their support to the BJP.
The new entrants mainly included office-bearers and active members of Garhwal Sabhas from the Kharar, Mohali and Dera Bassi Assembly constituencies. They were formally inducted into the BJP at the party’s state headquarters in Chandigarh by Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, who welcomed them into the party fold by presenting them with traditional party patkas.
Addressing the gathering, Dhillon said the BJP’s organisational base was steadily expanding across Punjab and that people were increasingly looking towards the party as a credible political alternative.
“People of Punjab have already experienced the governance models of the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal. They have now made up their minds to give the BJP an opportunity to serve the state. The pro-people and inclusive policies of the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are gaining widespread support across all sections of society,” Dhillon said.
He assured the newly inducted members that their contribution would be valued and that they would be given due respect and organisational responsibilities in the party.
Among those who joined the BJP were Suresh Shastri, president of Kharar Garhwal Sabha; Gabbar Singh, president of Naya Gaon Garhwal Sabha; Ganesh Barthwal, vice-president; and Indramani, president of Dera Bassi Garhwal Sabha, along with nearly 250 active members of the community.
Reaffirming their faith in the BJP’s leadership, the new members said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development, strong governance and a progressive India had inspired them to join the party.
The induction ceremony was attended by senior BJP leaders, including state vice-presidents Ranjit Singh Gill and Dr Subhash Sharma, district president Sanjeev Vashisht, BJP Media Cell co-convener Advocate M.K. Verma, besides other party functionaries and workers.
