79 Villages in Sanaur Constituency Get Canal Water for Irrigation Across 96,598 Acres: Barinder Goyal
Chandigarh/Patiala (Sanaur/Devigarh), July 29:
Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Goyal, along with Sanaur Constituency In-charge Ranjodh Singh Hadana, today inaugurated canal lining works completed at a cost of ₹68 crore, covering 106.72 kilometres of five distributaries and minors to ensure canal water reaches the tail-end areas. MLA Gurlal Ghanaur was also present on the occasion.
Addressing a large gathering at village Hadana, the Minister said that the project will provide canal irrigation to 96,598 acres of agricultural land across 79 villages in the Sanaur constituency. He said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to expanding canal irrigation to conserve groundwater and provide reliable irrigation facilities to farmers.
Barinder Goyal said previous governments had failed to ensure that canal water reached farmers’ fields, whereas the present government is making sustained efforts to strengthen the irrigation network across the state.
He informed that canal lining works have been completed on the Ghadam Rajbaha System, Fatehpur Minor, Sanaur Rajbaha, Udepur Minor and Balbera Minor. In addition, pipeline works covering 34.78 kilometres, costing ₹9 crore, are underway at various outlets of the Balbera and Sanaur Rajbahas, which will bring another 2,728 acres under canal irrigation.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjodh Singh Hadana said the Punjab Government has undertaken development works worth about ₹200 crore in the Sanaur constituency. He said these irrigation projects will significantly reduce farmers’ irrigation costs, improve crop productivity and ensure canal water reaches even the tail-end fields.
