*189 Divyang persons and senior citizens assessed at five ADIP camps in Kapurthala*

*Assistive devices worth Rs 38.47 lakh approved for eligible beneficiaries*


Member Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal on Friday inaugurated an Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) for Divyang persons and senior citizens in Phagwara.

Appreciating the successful conduct of the five assessment camps organised across district from August 3 to 7, MP Dr. Chabbewal said the camps reflected the Punjab Government's commitment to the welfare of Divyang persons and senior citizens. He said the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was working to ensure that every eligible beneficiary receive quality assistive devices free of cost so they could lead independent, dignified and self-reliant lives. He said the Punjab Government was giving special priority to the empowerment and social inclusion of Divyang persons through welfare schemes and services. "No eligible beneficiary should be deprived of government support due to lack of awareness or resources. Such initiatives help improve their quality of life and ensure equal opportunities," he added.

Dr. Chabbewal said 189 Divyang persons and senior citizens were assessed for various assistive devices during the camps organised by the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The camps were held at Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, Dhilwan, Nadala and Phagwara from August 3 to 7.

The MP informed that following assessment by experts from the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), assistive devices worth Rs 38.47 lakh have been approved for distribution among eligible beneficiaries. The sanctioned aids and appliances include hearing aids, wheelchairs, battery-operated wheelchairs, prostheses (artificial limbs), walking sticks and other rehabilitation devices as per individual requirements. He said that Divyang people were integral part of our society and state government was standing by them and his doors are open round the clock for such noble cause. 

Dr. Chabbewal said that these assistive aids and appliances would further boost morale of this section and called them an integral part of our society. He said that this aid would bring ease in their lives thereby enabling them to carry out their routine chores smoothly. He added that the approved equipment would be distributed to eligible beneficiaries after completion of the necessary formalities free of cost.
