Punjab Youth Congress Will Take to the Streets If the Central Government Fails to Act Immediately

Public Trust in a Constitutional Institution Like the Election Commission Is Essential for Democracy

Punjab Youth Congress State President Shubham Sharma Shubhi today, while addressing a press conference at the Punjab Congress Bhawan, demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid serious questions being raised over the electoral process and voter lists. He said that in a democracy, there is no right more important than the people’s right to vote, and any complaint or alleged irregularity related to voting must be subjected to an impartial investigation.

Shubham Sharma Shubhi said that questions are being raised across the country over allegations of “vote theft,” and serious concerns have also been raised regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. In such a situation, the Chief Election Commissioner must answer these questions. He demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter and called for action against Gyanesh Kumar in accordance with the law, including his arrest.

He said that maintaining public trust in a constitutional institution like the Election Commission is essential for the health of democracy. Questions being raised regarding the addition and deletion of names from voter lists, electoral data and the electoral process must be answered transparently. In recent days, opposition parties have also held protests demanding the resignation of the CEC and greater transparency in the electoral process.

Warning the Central Government, Shubhi said that if immediate action is not taken in the matter, the Punjab Youth Congress will take to the streets and launch strong protests and demonstrations against the Central Government. He said the struggle of the Punjab Youth Congress will continue until justice is ensured for the right to vote and democratic values.

“We will not allow the voices of young people and ordinary voters to be suppressed. We will raise our voice at every level to protect democratic rights. This is not a fight against any individual or political party; it is a fight to safeguard the voter’s right and preserve public faith in the democratic system,” he said.

On the occasion, Youth Congress In-charge Mukesh Kumar, Bharat Shankar Joshi, General Secretary Binny Mann, Hoshiarpur District President Rohnish Ohri, Hony Joshi and others were present.
