District Administration and DMC&H launch second phase of initiative to promote BP awareness,
cardiovascular health and lifesaving CPR skills
LUDHIANA, September 29, 2026: Every heart matters, and every small step towards caring for it can make a difference.
Building on the success of Mission Swasth Kavach, an ongoing community health initiative of the District Administration Ludhiana in collaboration with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, the second phase of the initiative will focus on making October 2026 a month dedicated to cardiovascular health awareness across the district.
Launched in 2025, Mission Swasth Kavach has been encouraging citizens to become more aware of their cardiovascular health, regularly monitor their blood pressure (BP), and learn simple lifesaving skills such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Over the course of the initiative, more than 180 government and private schools across Ludhiana have joined the movement, with students being introduced to BP monitoring and CPR. The wider community effort has contributed to the training of more than one lakh lifesavers across Ludhiana.
As the initiative enters its second phase, the District Administration and DMC&H are inviting schools, teachers, students and families to make October a meaningful month for conversations and action around heart health.
A Small Check Can Start an Important Conversation
During October, schools are encouraged to facilitate regular BP checks among students, teachers, staff, parents and family or community members, wherever trained persons/lifesavers and appropriate BP monitoring equipment are available.
Students can play an important role by encouraging their parents, grandparents and other family members to know their BP and by sharing the message that regular BP monitoring and learning CPR are important parts of caring for ourselves and those around us.
The initiative also emphasises responsible health awareness. BP checks should be carried out by trained persons using appropriate equipment. Students are not expected to diagnose hypertension or make medical decisions. In case of repeatedly elevated BP readings, the individual should be encouraged to consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Students should not advise anyone to start, stop or change any prescribed medication.
Let Us Keep a Record of the Care We Share
Schools participating in the initiative are encouraged to maintain a simple record of BP checks conducted during October and enter the relevant details in the designated Mission Swasth Kavach Google Form.

Submit BP Screening Data:
The school recording the highest number of BP checks during October will be recognised on the occasion of Children’s Day.
Let Students Share the Message in Their Own Way
Government and private school students across Ludhiana are also being encouraged to express what heart health means to them through creative public-awareness activities.
The initiative will invite entries in the following categories:
- Best Public Awareness Video — highlighting the importance of knowing and monitoring BP and learning CPR.
- Best Art/Public Awareness Painting — conveying a message on cardiovascular health.
- Best Poetry — carrying a message on heart health, BP awareness and lifesaving skills such as CPR.
These activities are intended to encourage learning, creativity and meaningful conversations around cardiovascular health. A drawing, a poem, a short video or even a simple conversation at home can encourage someone to pause and think about their heart health.
The District Administration Ludhiana and DMC&H have appealed to schools, teachers, students and families across the district to participate actively in the second phase of Mission Swasth Kavach and make cardiovascular health a part of everyday conversations and collective care.
