Chandigarh: Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon said Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Punjab had raised hopes of stronger action against drug-related crimes and justice for affected families.
Dhillon said he accompanied the Home Minister during meetings with the families of Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur, Gulzar Singh in Turbanjara, Sangrur, and Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa. According to Dhillon, the families were assured that their concerns would be addressed and justice pursued.
Criticising the AAP government’s handling of the drug problem, Dhillon alleged that its efforts had not been sufficient to tackle the menace and expressed concern over attacks on people who speak out against drugs.
Commenting on the decision to transfer the Jhota murder case to the CBI, Dhillon questioned the state government’s handling of the matter and alleged that the case had initially been treated as one involving personal enmity. He called on the government to address the family’s concerns and ensure accountability through a fair investigation.
Dhillon said the BJP had written to the Punjab Governor on October 13, seeking a CBI probe into the case. He also demanded that other similar cases be examined for possible transfer to the central agency to help ensure impartial investigations and justice for the affected families.
The BJP leader maintained that the state government must take responsibility for tackling drug-related crimes and restoring public confidence. He also criticised the AAP government over its handling of the issue and said the BJP would continue to raise concerns about drugs and public safety in Punjab.
