Sikh Delegation Led By Akal Takht Jathedar Meets Balwant Singh Rajoana In Patiala Jail

Patiala, September 29: A Sikh delegation led by Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj met Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana at Central Jail, Patiala, on Monday. The delegation included SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Tek Singh and SGPC member Surjit Singh Garhi.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jathedar Gargajj said Bhai Rajoana had conveyed his views regarding his long-pending case and the developments surrounding it. He said the matter had remained pending for several years and urged the concerned authorities to take an appropriate decision.

Jathedar Gargajj also referred to the Centre’s 2019 notification concerning Bhai Rajoana and said the Sikh delegation wanted the matter to be resolved. According to him, Bhai Rajoana remains firm in his position and has expressed his willingness to face the outcome of the case.

He further said that concerns relating to the rights and parole of other Sikh prisoners, including Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, were also discussed during the interaction.

Jathedar Gargajj said that if no decision was taken in Bhai Rajoana’s case within a reasonable time, the Panj Singh Sahiban could meet to discuss the matter and decide on the next course of action.

Regarding the October 2 march seeking the release of Bandi Singhs, he said Sri Akal Takht Sahib supports the cause and urged that issues concerning the rights of prisoners should receive due attention.

He also appealed to the media to continue reporting on matters related to the rights and welfare of prisoners. The delegation’s visit comes amid continued discussions within Sikh organisations regarding the pending cases of Sikh prisoners.
