Sdm Ludhiana East Jasleen Kaur Bhullar And Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Vinit Kumar Hand Over Letter Accepting Demands To The Trust
The Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust on Friday called off its sequential hunger strike on the 10th day after receiving a written guarantee from SDM Ludhiana East Jasleen Kaur Bhullar and Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Vinit Kumar accepting its demands.
It may be recalled that on Thursday, during the sequential hunger strike, the condition of Ashok Thapar, a descendant of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar who had been on hunger strike for nine days, deteriorated. MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi then visited the martyr’s birthplace and appealed to the protesters to end the fast after assuring that Rs 18 lakh would be accepted for the construction of a direct road from Chowra Bazaar to the birthplace.
Following Pappi’s assurance regarding the road construction, Ashok Thapar and the other hunger strikers refused to call off the agitation until they received a written guarantee for the road construction and until the process for renaming the railway station after Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar was initiated.
In response, the district administration today handed over written documents to the Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust through SDM Ludhiana East Jasleen Kaur Bhullar and Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Vinit Kumar, following which the sequential hunger strike was called off.
Ashok Thapar, while sharing details of the administration’s assurances, said the SDM and Joint Commissioner had given an assurance that road construction would begin within 15-20 days. He added that the district administration had also initiated the process of sending a written proposal to the Central government for renaming the railway station after the martyr.
Among those present on the occasion were Municipal Corporation SC Ranjit Singh, SDOs Simar and Karn, Tribhuvan Thapar (descendant of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar and national president of the Memorial Trust’s youth wing), Pali Sahajpal, Ashish Bauna, Raj Kumar Grover, Shavinder Abbat, Sunil Thakur, Aman Kannojia, Ashok Verma, Kaushal Walia, Kunwar Ranjan Singh, Agul Mathur, Harry Virdi, Promod Thapar, Rituraj Singh, Pragat Singh, Jayant Puri, Amit Verma, Sunny Mathur, Anita Sharma, Manjeet Kaur and others.
