Phagwara (Shiv Kaura) Kapurthala Police received information on May 30, 2026 around 11 am that a body with bullet marks was found lying in a vacant plot in village Maheru, police station Satnampura area. On receiving the information, police teams immediately reached the spot and started investigation. Senior officers including DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla and SSP Kapurthala Gaurav Tura also visited the spot. It was found that the deceased was Simranjit Singh, son of Jagdish Singh, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Jalandhar city. He was an RTI activist and lawyer. The deceased had two bullet wounds in his head, and his loaded revolver and mobile phone were recovered from the spot. His car, a Toyota Fortuner PB07BH0001, was also recovered from the spot along with a pump-action gun and a laptop. As per the initial statement, FIR No. 92 dated 30.05.2026 was registered at Police Station Satnampura, District Kapurthala under Section 103 BNS 25 Arms Act against unknown accused and investigation was initiated. Several teams were formed under the supervision of SP Investigation Kapurthala, SP Phagwara Madhvi Sharma and SP Headquarters Kapurthala to trace the unknown accused and work on the forward and backward links. Working on technical and human intelligence, a major breakthrough was achieved when the main accused, Sharanjit Singh alias Twinkle, son of Daljit Singh, resident of Tilak Nagar, Jalandhar, was caught and interrogated. It has been revealed that Sharanjit Singh is the cousin of Simranjit Singh. Simranjit Singh had invited him to view his plot in Maheru village. Sharanjit Singh had come in a white Swift car with five accomplices. On reaching the appointed place in the morning, an argument broke out between Simranjit and Sharanjit over money and abusive language was exchanged. When Simranjit Singh was standing at the plot, Sharanjit Singh loaded a .32 bore pistol, came from behind and shot Simranjit Singh in the head. After the murder, all the accused fled the spot. All the accused have been identified, and teams have been sent to nab the remaining suspects. It is worth noting that the motive behind this crime was a money dispute between cousins, which led to the murder in anger.
