Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister Of Punjab Confers On Chief Minister’s Awards To Progressive Farmers

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana conferred Chief Minister awards to three livestock farmers on the 18th of September, on the first day of Pashu Palan Mela. These awards were conferred in an impressive function by S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab. On this occasion, S. Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, MLAs and dignitaries were present. Sh. Sukhjeet Pal Singh, Registrar and officiating Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University and Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University were present in this honoring ceremony.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education said that Vet Varsity is making all out efforts for the development of the livestock sector in the state by strengthening its extension programmes. In order to motivate various categories of livestock farmers, the university organizes innovative competitions by assessing the extent and impact of adoption of these technologies in improving the productivity and profitability of different livestock farming systems.
He revealed that S. Balwinder Singh, son of Sh. Surjeet Singh, village Chauntra, district Sri Muktsar Sahib received the honour in the Innovative Cattle Farmer category. He has a well-managed dairy farm supported by advanced mechanization, breeding programme and record keeping. His farm has about 90 cows, heifers and pedigreed animals producing nearly 12 quintals of milk daily. The farm has a modern milking parlour to ensure quality milk production with minimal human contact.
Sh. Rajesh Garg, son of Sh. Chaman Lal, district Sangrur was decorated in the Innovative Poultry Farmer category. His poultry farm is spread over 15 acres and houses 4,50,000-layer hens and 2 lakh chicks and growers in environmentally controlled sheds. His adoption of environment friendly waste management technology has been recognized by Punjab Pollution Control Board. He also extends service to the society by extending nutritional support to patients in a nearby hospital.
In the category of Value addition of livestock produce, S Jarnail Singh, son of S Jaswant Singh of Harike, district Tarn Taran clinched the award. He is operating a milk processing facility with a capacity of around 50,000 litres of milk. He is using scientific methods for processing of milk and preparation of value-added products and sweets, along with sale of by-products.
Sh. Mandeep Singh Khattra a progressive farmer and feed miller was also honored during this function for his distinguished services for the livestock sector. Sh. Jyoti Saroop from the Unnati cooperative, Hoshiarpur was also honored.
Dr. Grewal informed that these Chief Minister awards carry plaque, shawl, and citation along with cash. For cattle category cash award is 21000/- for Poultry category 11000/- for Value addition of livestock produce 11000/-
