Sh. Sandeep N Mahatme, Private Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying GoI, visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. Dr Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor apprised about the university’s teaching, research and extension initiatives. Sh. Mahatme was taken to various key facilities of the university including the Fisheries Farm, Dairy Farms, Embryo Transfer Technology Lab and advanced laboratories. Scientists briefed him on the ongoing programmes related to breed improvement, enhancement of milk, fish and meat processing technologies, and initiatives aimed at increasing the productivity and profitability of livestock farmers. Sh. Mahatme appreciated the treatment facilities being carried out in the Multi-SpecialityVeterinary Hospital, where he acknowledged the quality of veterinary diagnostic and treatment services . He commended the team for their commitment to farmer welfare and encouraged them to further scale up outreach and emergency services.
Dr Gill emphasised that Varsity is continuously working to uplift the livestock and fisheries sectors of the state. He informed him that the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Regional Research & Training Centres (RRTCs) of the university are actively transferring technologies to farmers, conducting trainings, demonstrations, animal health camps and providing field-level support across rural Punjab. University officials and faculty members were present throughout the visit, contributing to discussions on strategies for improving animal health,production, value addition and farmer income.
Sh. Sandeep Mahatme expressed satisfaction over the university’s progress and assured continued cooperation for initiatives related to livestock development, farmers' welfare and environmental sustainability. He also visited a couple of commercial dairy farms of Punjab to get first hand information about the dairy farming practices being adopted by the farmers . He was very impressed about the strides made by the state in the field of dairy farming.
