Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, saying that its anti-Dalit mindset has once again been exposed before the people of Punjab. He said that from Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring to other party leaders at various levels, Congress leaders have been repeatedly targeting the Dalit community through their statements and actions.

Senior AAP leader and Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Derogatory remarks had been made about the colour and caste of the highly respected former Home Minister of India late Boota Singh Ji, while on other occasions, Congress leaders had made objectionable remarks reflecting their hostility towards the Dalit community. Such statements and conduct clearly expose the Congress party’s anti-Dalit mindset.”

Referring to the recent incident in Namol village, the senior AAP leader said that when several women from the village exposed the attempts by local Congress leaders to facilitate drug sales and malign the Punjab government, the Congress leaders, in frustration, resorted to making highly objectionable and insulting remarks against Dalit women. He said, “Such remarks were not only deeply disrespectful but also reflected the Congress leadership’s low level of political discourse and its hateful attitude towards the Dalit community.”

Harpal Singh Cheema asserted, “The AAP government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working for the welfare of the people of Punjab. Frightened and frustrated by the pro-people work being carried out by the government, Congress leaders are making unsuccessful attempts to create social divisions.” He strongly condemned such anti-Dalit statements and actions by the Congress party.
