Bjp Delegation Meets Governor Over Sangrur Cases, Seeks Cbi Probe

Sep8,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Chandigarh

A Punjab BJP delegation led by state president Kewal Singh Dhillon met Punjab Governor on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum seeking an impartial probe into two cases related to Sangrur.

The delegation raised the death of Toor Banjara resident Gulzar Singh and the alleged custodial assault of Mohanjit Singh. BJP leaders sought an independent CBI investigation into both cases and urged that all relevant evidence and records be preserved.
According to the BJP, Gulzar Singh had raised concerns over the alleged sale of ‘chitta’ in his area and sought action against the drug menace. The party said a video purportedly recorded before his death contained allegations against certain individuals and urged that these claims be examined as part of the investigation.
The BJP also raised the case of Mohanjit Singh, who, according to the party, was detained during a protest over the drug issue during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s visit to Sangrur. The party sought an inquiry into his allegations of physical mistreatment and called for preservation of medical records, CCTV footage and other relevant documents.
Dhillon urged the Governor to ensure that both matters are investigated fairly and in accordance with law.
The BJP has also announced protests across Punjab on Wednesday over the two Sangrur cases.
