Glada Demolishes 11 Unauthorized Colonies In Ludhiana, Intensifies Action Against Illegal Development

Sep8,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Ludhiana

Following the directions of Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized and unplanned development, particularly illegal colonies.
GLADA Chief Administrator Vikas Hira, PCS, said that the authority has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards unauthorized development and launched a special drive against those allegedly exploiting residents by offering cheaper plots in unauthorized colonies that lack statutory approval and compliance with government norms.
In compliance with demolition orders issued by the Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA, Ludhiana, a joint team comprising a Duty Magistrate, police personnel and the enforcement team of GLADA's Regulatory Wing demolished 11 unauthorized colonies on September 8, 2026.
The action was carried out in the villages of Jaspal Bangar, Dhraur, Tibba, Majara, Sahnewal and Kohara. Roads, ongoing illegal constructions and other structures developed at the sites were dismantled during the operation.
According to GLADA, notices had already been served on the developers directing them to stop unauthorized construction. As the illegal work continued, the enforcement team carried out the demolition drive. The operation remained peaceful and unopposed.
GLADA Chief Administrator Vikas Hira said that more such drives are being planned in the coming weeks to check the mushrooming of unauthorized colonies at an early stage. In recent drives, action has already been taken against more than 20 unauthorized colonies.
He appealed to the general public to exercise caution and avoid purchasing plots, properties or buildings in unauthorized colonies. GLADA stated that such colonies may not be provided statutory facilities such as water supply, sewerage or electricity connections.
Prospective buyers have been advised to verify the list of approved and regularized colonies, along with sanctioned layouts, on the official GLADA website before purchasing any property.
GLADA further stated that enforcement drives will continue in the coming days across the region, including Jagraon, Threekey and Dhandra Road. Besides demolition drives, strict legal action will also be taken against persons involved in unauthorized development under the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act.
