Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that during the last four-and-a-half years, the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has carried out historic work in accordance with the expectations and dreams of Punjabis. He said that the government has fulfilled all its guarantees, including free electricity, better education, improved healthcare facilities, honourarium for the families of martyrs and financial assistance for women.
Addressing a press conference, he said that Punjab is the only state in the country where health insurance of up to ₹10 lakh is being provided to everyone without any discrimination on the basis of religion, caste or annual income. In addition, going beyond the promise of ₹1,000 for women, an amount of ₹1,500 is being provided to women of Dalit families.
Comparing this with conditional schemes in other states, he said that Delhi and Haryana may have an amount of ₹2,100 on paper, but several conditions related to income and household items have been imposed there, whereas in Punjab, every mother and sister above the age of 18 is receiving this benefit without any condition. Along with this, large-scale initiatives have been undertaken for Punjab’s bright future.
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP at the Centre, Minister Bains said that the Bharatiya Janata Party had received no support on Punjab’s political ground. After all its tactics of holding rallies and intimidating and threatening leaders failed, the BJP is now trying to enter Punjab through central agencies.
He made it clear that Punjab’s thinking is different from that of other states, and therefore such a formula will not work here at all. He said that through such tactics, the BJP would even lose its remaining 5–7 per cent vote bank. He said that Punjabis firmly oppose high-handedness and these attempts would fail. Speaking about conspiracies to stop the development works of the Mann government, he assured that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has God’s blessings and that the development works will not be stopped at any cost.
