Bjp’s Organisational Strength And High Command’s Decisions Have Always Stood The Test Of Time: Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala

May30,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Amritsar

Punjab BJP Spokesperson Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala reacted to the remarks made by former Punjab Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh regarding the appointment of Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon as the new President of the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Prof. Khiala said that the BJP is not a personality-centric party but an organisation and ideology-driven political movement, where decisions are taken not on the basis of individual preferences but in accordance with the party’s long experience, organisational requirements, and future political strategy.
He stated that the political and organisational decisions taken over the past decade by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and the BJP’s central leadership have repeatedly been validated by the people of India through electoral mandates. The appointment of Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon, he said, is part of the same broader political vision and farsighted leadership. He expressed confidence that under Dhillon’s leadership, the Punjab BJP would emerge stronger and work with renewed energy towards realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat, Viksit Punjab” (Developed India, Developed Punjab).
Prof. Khiala said that appointments in a democratic party cannot be judged solely through the prism of caste arithmetic. The BJP has always maintained a balance between merit and social inclusiveness. In a diverse state like Punjab, ensuring participation and representation of all sections of society strengthens democratic values and broadens political engagement.
He further said that Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon is an experienced political leader with extensive grassroots outreach and proven organisational abilities. Through his work across different regions and social segments of Punjab, he has established a distinct political identity. Consequently, he is well-positioned to fulfill the party’s political expectations and deliver meaningful results. By entrusting him with the responsibility of State President, the BJP leadership has conveyed its commitment to expanding the party’s reach across every section and region of Punjab. He added that BJP workers have full faith in the decisions of the central leadership and that time will vindicate the wisdom of these decisions.
Responding to Captain Amarinder Singh’s observations regarding the BJP’s allegedly centralised functioning, Prof. Khiala said that the party’s greatest strength lies in its disciplined organisation and national outlook. A common vision implemented from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Kamrup should not be viewed as centralisation, but as organisational cohesion and policy clarity. It is this model, he said, that has made the BJP the world’s largest democratic political party. The BJP’s politics is rooted in principles, development, and national interest.
On Captain Amarinder Singh’s advocacy for a renewed alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal, Prof. Khiala said that decisions regarding alliances are taken by the party’s central leadership in accordance with prevailing circumstances and are guided by considerations of national and public interest. He asserted that through sustained organisational efforts, the BJP today possesses a strong grassroots structure and a capable cadre base across Punjab.
Prof. Khiala further stated that since the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, the BJP’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections, by-elections, panchayat polls, and local body elections has been better than anticipated. This, he said, demonstrates the party’s continuous organisational expansion and growing outreach among farmers, youth, women, Scheduled Castes, and minority communities. Today, the BJP has emerged as a credible and viable political alternative in Punjab. He expressed confidence that the party would earn the trust of the people on its own strength in the 2027 Assembly elections and form the government.
Highlighting Punjab’s current challenges, Prof. Khiala said that the state is facing serious economic distress, an agrarian crisis, the menace of drugs, social degradation, and law-and-order concerns. Additionally, Punjab’s border with Pakistan presents significant security challenges. He stressed that Punjab needs to be brought back on the path of development, investment, employment, and security. At such a critical juncture, he said, political discourse should focus on the future of the state and solutions to people’s problems rather than on personal disagreements or organisational appointments.
