In line with the directions of the Food and Drugs Administration, Punjab, Food Safety Fortnight is being observed across Ludhiana district from April 9, 2026 to April 23, 2026. The initiative aims to promote awareness among the general public and ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food.
District Health Officer Ludhiana, Dr. Ashish Chawala, informed that during this period, intensive food safety drives will be conducted throughout the district. Designated Officers and Food Safety Officers have been directed to carry out regular inspections, organize awareness activities, and encourage food business operators to actively participate in the campaign.
Food business operators are being encouraged to voluntarily submit samples of food items such as milk, milk products, and spices for testing. For this purpose, Food Safety Officers will remain available in their offices daily from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to receive samples, which will be sent to the State Food Laboratory, Kharar for analysis.
Dr. Chawala further stated that in cases where samples fail to meet safety standards, the reports will be shared with the concerned operators. Necessary corrective measures will be identified, following which enforcement samples will be collected to ensure compliance with food safety norms.
To strengthen public outreach, Food Safety Officers will also be deployed along with Food Safety on Wheels units to conduct awareness campaigns at various locations across the district. These activities will focus on educating the public about safe food practices and hygiene.
Dr. Ashish Chawala emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards protecting public health and creating awareness among both consumers and food business operators. He urged all stakeholders to actively cooperate and contribute to the success of the campaign.
