With the monsoon season in full swing, the number of snakebite cases is on the rise. Dr. Chander Shekhar Kakkar, Civil Surgeon, Fazilka, has advised against panic and emphasized the importance of timely treatment for snake bites.
According to Dr. Kakkar, snakebite cases are common during the monsoon season, and it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately if bitten. He assured that anti-snake venom is available at government hospitals in Fazilka, Abohar, and Jalalabad, and patients are being treated promptly.
Dr. Kakkar cautioned against seeking treatment from unqualified persons and urged people to rush the patient to the nearest government hospital in case of a snakebite. He also advised against applying tourniquets or trying to suck out the venom, as these methods are ineffective and can lead to further complications.
Instead, Dr. Kakkar recommended keeping the affected limb below heart level, remaining calm, and seeking medical attention as soon as possible. He also emphasized the importance of wearing closed shoes and long boots while walking in flooded areas and using torches at night.
The civil surgeon also advised people to keep their surroundings clean and free of clutter to prevent snakes from entering their homes.
On this occasion Dr. Kavita Singh, Dr. Sunita Kamboj, Vinod Khurana, Divesh Kumar, and Harmit Singh, were also present.
