Jul5,2024 | Gautam Jalandhari | Fazilka

In a bid to intensify the fight against drugs and foster closer relationships with rural communities, Fazilka District Police launched Mission Nischay on June 26, a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at educating border villages about the dangers of drug abuse. Led by SSP Dr. Pragya Jain, Mission Nischay is a proactive initiative that seeks to engage with villagers, particularly through Village Defence Committees (VDCs). Senior police officers have been visiting villages to conduct meetings with VDC members, sensitizing them about the ill effects of drugs and encouraging their participation in the anti-drug movement. As of today, 29 meetings have been held with VDCs in villages along the international border, which are particularly vulnerable to drug trafficking. These meetings have helped to create awareness about the harmful effects of drugs on individuals, families, and society, strengthen ties with villagers and VDCs to ensure a collective response to drug-related issues and to encourage villagers to report drug-related activities and support the police in their efforts The focus on border villages is crucial, as drugs often enter the region through these areas. By engaging with these communities, the police aim to create a robust defence against drug trafficking and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. The mission Nishchay was launched by Fazilka Police on 26-6-2024. Since then, about 94 drug traffickers have been arrested under this mission, out of which 34 drug traffickers against under 110 CrPC and 53 drug traffickers against under 129 BNSS action has been taken, while 06 accused have been arrested in various cases registered under NDPS Act. 67 kg 500 grams of opium, 15 grams of heroin, 05 kg of poppy seeds, drug money worth Rs. 40000 and about 93 litters of liquor have been recovered from these drug smugglers. Fazilka Police has recently recovered 66 kg of opium under Mission Nischay, during which the big fishes involved in opium smuggling have been arrested. SSP Dr. Pragya Jain emphasized, "Mission Nischay is a vital step towards creating a drug-free society. We are committed to engaging with our rural communities, listening to their concerns, and working together to build a safer and healthier environment for all." Through Mission Nischay, Fazilka District Police reaffirms its dedication to protecting the citizens of Fazilka and promoting a culture of awareness, cooperation, and collective action against drugs.
