Ct Group And Punjab Press Club To Unveil Restored Historic Clock Tower On June 16

Jun13,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Jalandhar

Jalandhar is set to witness the revival of one of its most cherished landmarks as CT Group, in collaboration with Punjab Press Club, prepares to unveil the restored Historic Clock Tower at Company Bagh on June 16. The initiative marks the restoration of a significant symbol of the city's heritage, reconnecting generations with a landmark that once played an integral role in everyday life.

Located within Company Bagh, the Clock Tower has long been a prominent part of Jalandhar's cultural landscape. Before the advent of digital clocks and mobile phones, residents relied on the tower as a trusted source of time. Over the years, it became a recognizable landmark and an enduring symbol of the city's identity.

The foundation of the Clock Tower was laid on February 10, 1982, by Municipal Commissioner Choudhary (IAS). Gradually, it evolved into one of Jalandhar's most familiar landmarks. However, after ceasing operations in 1992, the structure stood silent for decades, serving as a reminder of the city's rich past.

In 2005, the Punjab Press Club was established adjacent to the Clock Tower, transforming the area into a vibrant hub for journalists and media professionals. As custodians of the city's stories and heritage, members of the Press Club continued to witness the silent presence of this historic structure and shared a common aspiration to see it restored to its former glory.

Recognizing the historical and emotional significance of the landmark, Punjab Press Club, in collaboration with CT Group, initiated the restoration of not only the heritage structure but also the iconic clock mechanism itself. The initiative is the vision of S. Charanjit Singh Channi, Chancellor, CT University, who firmly believes that preserving heritage is essential to preserving a city's identity. For him, the Clock Tower represents far more than a physical structure—it embodies the memories, traditions, and collective experiences of generations of Jalandhar residents. With a commitment to safeguarding this legacy, he envisioned restoring the landmark to its former glory so that future generations can continue to connect with an important chapter of the city's history.

Under his leadership, months of detailed research, planning, technical assessment, and intricate restoration work were undertaken to ensure that the Clock Tower retained its historical authenticity while regaining its lost grandeur. The vision was further strengthened through the support and collaboration of Jaspreet Singh Saini, President, Punjab Press Club, and Jatinder Singh, General Manager, Punjab Press Club, whose efforts played a crucial role in transforming the restoration project into reality.

More than the restoration of a monument, this initiative represents the preservation of heritage, culture, and collective memory. It stands as a tribute to the generations who grew up with the Clock Tower as a familiar part of their lives and serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the landmarks that define a city's character.

The unveiling ceremony on June 16 will mark the beginning of a new chapter for this historic landmark. As the restored Clock Tower once again takes its rightful place among Jalandhar's iconic structures, it will stand as a symbol of civic pride, cultural continuity, and the collective commitment of institutions and individuals dedicated to preserving the city's legacy for generations to come.
