          In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has apprehended two individuals and recovered two country-made .32 bore pistols along with five live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.
 
          Those arrested have been identified as Kuldeep Singh alias Cheema, a resident of village Akalia Kalan in Bathinda, and Abhimaan Singh alias Abhi, a resident of Bhagu Wali Dhanni at village Khundehalal in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
 
          DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that both the arrested accused are linked to a criminal network operated by a jailed gangster active in the Ferozepur region. Arrested accused Kuldeep Singh alias Cheema has a criminal background and is involved in multiple cases relating to attempt to murder and Arms Act, he said.
 
          The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages of the network to identify other associates involved.
 
          Sharing operational details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban said that a team from AGTF Bathinda was on routine patrolling duty when they noticed two suspicious persons sitting in the bushes on the right side of a slip road at the Cantoment Bypass Ring Road in Bathinda.
 
          On noticing the police party, both individuals became nervous and attempted to conceal themselves, he said, while adding that sensing suspicion, police team apprehended them and during frisking, illegal weapons along with live ammunition were recovered from their possession.
 
          In this regard, a case FIR No 156 dated 12.06.2026 under section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Civil Lines Bathinda.
