Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader Neel Garg hit back at the statement made by Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar regarding power cuts. Neel Garg said that it is extremely ironic that those who pushed Punjab into decades of power crisis and darkness during their rule are today shedding crocodile tears and doing politics over a mere 2-hour maintenance-related power cut meant to strengthen the system.

Garg said that Jakhar perhaps does not remember that during his tenure and that of his former allies, long power cuts were a common occurrence. But today, when the Mann Government is working to secure the future, they are feeling uneasy.

Neel Garg said that during the time of Jakhar and his previous parties, farmers were forced to irrigate their fields in extreme cold and dark nights. Due to prolonged power cuts, Punjab’s industry would come to a complete standstill. The power infrastructure had completely collapsed because previous governments never worked with foresight.

Garg said that darkness was ‘normal’ for them back then, but today, when the Mann Government is fixing the system, they see it as a ‘problem’. He clarified that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party government is working in a planned manner. The current power cuts are being imposed to strengthen the electricity infrastructure and to prevent major technical failures in the future.

Neel Garg further said that the truth is that some leaders are unable to digest the ‘light’ emerging in Punjab. He said that today Punjab is witnessing record power generation and people are receiving free and uninterrupted electricity. The responsibility of fixing the weakened system, damaged due to negligence and corruption of previous governments, is being effectively fulfilled by the AAP government.
