DSP Gabbar Singh Flags Off Awareness March; Dr. Inderjit Singh and Jaswant Singh Chhapa Stress Collective Efforts
Khanna, October 4: An awareness campaign against drug abuse and HIV/AIDS was organized in Khanna under the TI Project by Dr. D.N. Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital and Educational Centre, Ludhiana, with the guidance and support of the Punjab State AIDS Control Society.
As part of the campaign, an anti-drug awareness march was held to educate people about the harmful effects of drugs, HIV/AIDS prevention and safe health practices. Khanna DSP Gabbar Singh flagged off the march and said that the problem of drug abuse affects not only individuals and families but society as a whole. He stressed the need for joint efforts by the police, health institutions, social organizations, families and the public to prevent drug abuse among youth.
President of Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, Ludhiana, Jaswant Singh Chhapa, said that people affected by drug abuse should not face discrimination and should instead be provided proper guidance, treatment and support to return to the mainstream of society.
Project Director Dr. Inderjit Singh said the TI Project is providing free counselling, HIV screening, needle-syringe exchange and treatment support to drug-affected and high-risk individuals. He emphasized that timely awareness, testing, counselling and treatment can help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Several officials and representatives, including Traffic In-charge Kuljit Singh, AAP In-charge Kulwant Singh Mahami, Link Worker Scheme In-charge Lucky, Project Manager Manpreet Singh and OST Counsellor Gurjant Singh, were present. The project team also provided information about HIV/AIDS prevention, the harmful effects of drugs and available health and counselling services.
