In a major breakthrough against organized crime amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a well-coordinated operation with central agencies and Tripura Police, has apprehended Aditya alias Makhan, one of the shooters involved in the sensational murder of Kabaddi Promoter Kanwar Digvijay Singh alias Rana Balachauria, from Agartala in Tripura, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.
The arrested accused, Aditya alias Makhan, a resident of Amritsar, has a criminal background with at least 14 cases pertaining to Murder, Attempt to Murder, Extortion, Armed Robbery, NDPS, Arms Act etc are registered against him.
The development came few months after two shooters— Karan Pathak alias Karan Defaulter and Tarandeep Singh, were arrested along with their associate identified as Akashdeep from Howrah in West Bengal.
As per the information, victim Rana Balachauria was shot dead by assailants during a Kabaddi tournament at village Sohana in SAS Nagar on December 15, 2025. As of now, a total of six accused persons including three shooters have been arrested. Two accused persons identified as Aishdeep Singh and Davinder were arrested earlier for providing logistic support to the shooters.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that acting on the directions of foreign-based handlers, the arrested accused Aditya alias Makhan, along with his associates, executed the planned killing.
“While his accomplices were earlier apprehended by the AGTF, accused Aditya had been absconding and evading arrest until now,” said the DGP, while adding that with this arrest all the accused persons involved in this sensational murder case have been arrested.
Sharing operational details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that an input was received from secret source about the whereabouts of Aditya Kapoor alias Makhan.
Acting upon this inputs, an interstate operation codenamed “Shadow Hunt” was launched and a police team under the supervision of DSP Rajan Parminder Singh was dispatched to Agartala in Tripura, he said, while adding that, consequently, the accused was successfully apprehended by the AGTF team with the support of Central agencies and local police.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 312 dated 16/12/2025 had been registered under sections 103(1), 109, 3(5) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sohana in SAS Nagar.
